Seriously, what ugly shoes! These were the exact same words I uttered to myself when I saw these Christian Louboutin “Intern” denim spiked loafers online. While I’m yearning for his iconic spikes, especially after turning down a sexy pair of “Pigalle” black kid/silver spiked heels two weeks ago (it still hurts!), these were just a no-no. Simply having spikes on the cap toe was awful. Beware airport security! And because the shoes are denim, they’re not meant for everyday coolness. Beware rain and snow! Oh, and look at that pretentious CL “coat of arms” — or whatever that is — embroidered smack in the middle of the shoes. Beware tacky! I mean, who would buy such shoes? Just look at them, Mr. Louboutin capitalizing on the spike phenomenon. Well, apparently moi. Shame, shame, shame!

As the story goes, my daughter and I just got back from a five-day trip to Paris. After dining at Claus off Rue Jean-Jacques Rousseau where I could see the Louboutin boutique from our window seat, we just had to enter. I mean, it’s literally 10 steps away, right across the street. Lingering about the store, drooling at the sky-high stilettos that I’ll never be able to walk on, I asked for a flat pair of “Pigalle” or “Rollerball” spikes in teeny 35. Not a fat chance! But the lovely sales lady assisting us brought these out.

Wow! Yes, you read that right. Wow! These are incredibly cool in real life, with the embroidered CL emblem tastefully done. And because of the small size, they look rocker chic in a cute sort of way. Though I have a feeling they’ll look like monster shoes in bigger sizes. Pair them with shorts, skinnies, skirts and casual dresses and you’re all set. Just keep the overall look monochromatic and minimal please.

So never judge a shoe online! And there goes item #2 of my 2013 shopping resolution. Mmm, now how can I keep up in the next 10 months with just 11 more pieces? Help!

Until my next post … take care!
